great moments in parenting

hey everyone

well, being a parent means a few testing times but, for the most part, many moments where one feels nothing but pure pride.

one such moment surely has to be when your four (and a bit) year old son asks if he can watch the video for Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys at 6 in the morning.

i am somewhat responsible for this wish of his, as i introduced him to the marvels of this song by encouraging him to singalong to "intergalactic, planetary, planetary, intergalactic" to help pass the time whilst having a bath. however, it is Michele who called us over to watch the video last night.

James was more impressed with the video than my heavily abridged version of the song, and who would not be? he considers, rightly, the robot to be one of the most excellent things that he has ever seen, and also took quite a shine to the octopus-squid type thing that the robot battles with.

it is rather fortunate that i have the fine "video collection" of them at home, then, as he was able to watch it a few times more than just the most welcome screening of it on the ever increasingly impressive VH1 Classics channel!

once upon a time i did bring a dinner party conversation to a halt to bear witness to this magnificent video, but that's a story for another time and another place. in the mean time, i am contemplating showing James the even more impressive video for Sabotage. what it lacks in robots it certainly makes up for in 70s style content. speaking of content, however, as i recall the song the lyrical nature of Sabotage might just prevent it being played for his young ears.....

be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
