Manic Street Deceivers?

hey everyone

well, here we go with a third post / update on the (ahem) "deluxe" box set of the (excuse me?) "complete" Manic Street Preachers singles. i was only hoping to do an update, good or bad, when the actual tracklisting became available. it isn't yet, but i got a fairly interesting update all the same.

i grew a bit bored of waiting for some sort of official announcement of what would actually be on the set, so contacted Sony directly via their online store, myplay direct. i asked them what exactly the tracklisting was for the set, and straight away got a presumably automated response stating that they would answer "within 24 hours".

23 hours and 50 minutes later i got the following :

Hi,

I'm sorry to inform you that at this point of time the Track listing is not available for "NATIONAL TREASURES - THE COMPLETE SINGLES DELUXE VERSION". Once the tracks listing are updated you will be able to view on the web page.

Sincerely,

Sony Music Digital

yeah, right. 5 or 6 weeks away from release and they are not prepared to state what is actually on this very expensive set?

i would suggest that the original appearance of this set online, where it stated clearly that it was "38 tracks across 38 CDs", is exactly what it is, and they are not confirming this for fear of losing orders. or fear of being unable to con people out of money for a poor set.

even by the generally accepted standards of low customer service and poor quality product Sony seems to pride itself on, this is getting to be a bit much. i really, really wish that the Manic Street Preachers were on just about any other record label in the world. it is not like Sony are particularly happy or proud to have the band on their books, going on the evidence. when you click on the link to show all artists on Sony available to purcahse from their site they do not even list the Manics, despite the fact that the only place you can order this set is from them. why they strive to make it difficult to give them money is beyond me.

i really hope i'm wrong and that this box set includes some, if not all, of the magnificent b-sides that went with the singles. i suspect, though, that my hope is very much in vain. in the mean time, all i can really do is suggest that you forget all about this box set until details are confirmed, and instead rather order the much better looking 2 CD, 1 DVD set of this release.

i don't think we're going to find out what's actually in the box set version until someone risks a huge amount of cash to order it. that will not be me!

be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
