firstly, Forever Delayed as a single disc set is cheaper, plays better in terms of running order and does not have Autumnsong on it, so that's the one i would go for. if you saw National Treasure for around £5 in coins of money, fine, but Forever Delayed does the business in terms of the best of the Manics.
the latest DCI Banks novel would be Abattoir Blues, and oh yes indeed it was uninspired. even by the usual standards of Peter Robinson the plot is contrived, the resolution ho hum and the level of interest of anyone involved - reader, author, characters - is ultra limited.
